Setting Up Your Home Podcast Studio on a Budget

Starting a podcast doesn't require breaking the bank. Here’s how to set up a functional home studio affordably:

1. Microphone:

A USB microphone is often the easiest starting point. Options like the Samson Q2U or Audio-Technica AT2020 USB+ offer good quality for the price. Dynamic mics (like the Q2U) are often better in untreated rooms.

2. Headphones:

Closed-back headphones are essential to prevent mic bleed. Audio-Technica ATH-M20x or Sennheiser HD 280 Pro are solid budget choices.

3. Recording & Editing Software (DAW):

Audacity (free, open-source) is a great starting point. GarageBand (free on Apple devices) is also excellent. Reaper offers a very affordable license with professional features.

4. Acoustic Treatment (DIY):

Record in a closet filled with clothes, or use blankets and pillows around your recording area to absorb sound reflections. Avoid large, empty rooms with hard surfaces.
